Types of Woods

Available wood includes: White Birch, Spruce, Pine and White Poplar. Our specialty is Birch.

Birch

Birch is a hardwood and is our biggest seller, as it burns hotter, longer and cleaner than all the other wood types that are readily available in Alberta. The clean burn reduces the creosote build up inside the chimney. This will help reduce the risk of a chimney fire as well it will reduce the costs of maintenance of your chimney.

Spruce / Pine

Spruce / Pine is considered a softwood with a very pleasant aroma. This wood will burn significantly faster than birch. It also tends to pop and spit which some customers appreciate, while others that don't have screens on the fireplace or firepit can be annoyed by the shooting sparks that potentially could cause damage or injury if not properly supervised.

White Poplar

White Poplar is also considered a softwood, which will also burn faster and with less heat output than birch. It doesn't smell as nice as the Spruce / Pine but it does spark and pop a little less than the Spruce / Pine. Poplar is very readily available in Alberta but generally is used more of a firepit type of wood as it is cheaper than the birch.
